After a day in the sun watching parades, barbecuing, swimming, and eating plenty of burgers, dogs and all kinds of salads, your family and friends will love this fun and delicious chocolaty Sweet n’ Salty Patriotic Bark.  It’s easy to make and even better – no baking required! It’s the perfect treat to enjoy while watching the fireworks light up the night sky!

Sweet n’Salty Patriotic Bark

1 package (12 oz.) milk chocolate chips
2 (4 oz.) white chocolate baking bars (use good quality like Gghirardelli or Lindt)
1 package milk chocolate M&M’s (using only the red and blue)
1 package pretzels, the twisted kind
Patriotic sprinkles

Begin by melting the white chocolate. Break up the white chocolate into pieces and put into a bowl of a double boiler over low heat. Gently and slowly melt the chocolate until it is smooth – keep your eye on this and be sure not to over heat.

As your white chocolate melts, put the milk chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl for 2-3 minutes to melt, stirring after about 30 second intervals ensuring you do not burn. Pour melted milk chocolate into a rimmed non-stick baking sheet. Sprinkle M&M’s and pretzels over the top of the chocolate.  Press down gently. Then drizzle with the melted white chocolate and top with the sprinkles.

Put in the freezer for approximately 30 minutes, or until firm to your liking.

Remove from the freezer and using a spatula remove from the baking sheet onto a large cutting board. Break bark with your hands or if you prefer you can also use a knife. Store in an airtight container – I like to keep mine in the freezer.

Do your patriotic best — serve up this scrumptious candy delight to your friends and family! Here’s to the red, white and blue – and of course chocolate!  Happy 4th of July!
